Bulk is the supply mode for sites that consume: no packaging to discard, no bags to handle, a lower price per tonne. The short answer: it requires a storage silo on site (30 to 200 T capacities, rental available from partners), is delivered by tanker truck from 30 tonnes — one full load — and the transfer takes 30 to 45 minutes. Below that volume, big bags or 50 kg bags remain the right answer.
The truck arrives on your site, connects to the silo through a flexible hose, and pumps the cement directly into the cell. The operation is automated and controlled by the driver: allow about 30 to 45 minutes to transfer 30 T. Your two duties: have a silo (see below) and a practicable truck-access zone. The 30 T minimum is not a commercial whim: below a full load, bulk logistics become prohibitive and the per-tonne price loses its point.
Site silos range from 30 to 200 T depending on your consumption. Do not own one? In the field, three reflexes keep your bulk sound: a silo sealed against rain and ambient humidity, a clean discharge valve to avoid blockages, and stock rotation — cement should be consumed within 3 months of production, first in, first out.
Below the 30 T mark, one category keeps the advantages of bulk without the infrastructure: the portable or mobile silo, a 5-30 T vessel mounted on a chassis — towable, or crane-liftable to follow the site from one zone to the next. Discharge is by gravity or screw, straight into the mixer or chute; recent models integrate a sleeve filter, level gauge and sealed outlet valve. For a mid-sized site, a precasting yard or an urban plot where a fixed silo would need heavy permitting, it is the compromise: less packaging than big bags, less handling than 50 kg bags, and equipment that moves on to the next site.
The DAM tanker connects to a portable silo exactly as to a fixed one — flexible hose, blowing, filtration — provided the silo stands on stable ground and its filters are maintained: a clogged filter pressurises the cell and pushes cement everywhere but inside.
