Morocco is one of the world's great solar territories — and its industry looks at that resource seriously. Direct answer: photovoltaic electricity can today power a cement plant's auxiliaries; the thermal process — the bulk of the energy — still awaits high-temperature solar, at pilot stage. Sector orders of magnitude, without lending DAM unpublished installations.
In clinker production, the thermal share dominates: firing at ~1,450 °C consumes the bulk — on the order of 90 % of the energy — while electricity (cement grinding, fans, conveying) is a fraction. This structure dictates solar strategy: PV attacks the electrical fraction, immediately deployable; the thermal side requires reaching very high temperatures, today's technological frontier.
Plant roofs, parking canopies, available land: PV installs in self-consumption for motors, grinders and lighting. Its Achilles heel is known — intermittency — and is managed by sizing to the plant's daytime load curve, grid complement included. It is the immediate application, economically armed in a country with an exceptional solar resource.
Concentrating plants — mirrors, molten salts, thermal storage — can supply heat beyond 400 °C on a partial-continuous basis. The tracks for cement: preheating of materials, steam support, and eventually reinjection into the process via dedicated exchangers. International pilots are exploring; no full-kiln integration is industrial to date.
With installations like Noor Ouarzazate, the Kingdom has invested in a world-class solar sector, and the national grid benefits from it. For a local industry, that is a favourable frame — price signals, expertise, ecosystem. Each plant's siting choices remain its own: we describe the lever without inventing our figures.
Solar electricity is a real and immediate lever for a cement plant's auxiliary side; solar heat for the kiln is a serious but unkept promise. In between, the buyer sees no difference in the bag: NM 10.1.004 / EN 197-1 compliance does not depend on the sun.

Electricity (auxiliaries, grinding) is a fraction; kiln heat (~90 % of energy) is the real piece — and the real difficulty.
Morocco has one of the world's best solar yields: PV in self-consumption is economically armed.
Molten salts and thermal storage progress, but no full-kiln integration is industrial to date.
Solar or not, NM 10.1.004 / EN 197-1 compliance and tests are the evidence — the sun does not enter the bag.
Solar preheating, steam support: demonstrators announce the real horizon better than brochures.

Two thirds chemistry, one third energy: the public orders of magnitude of cement's footprint, the real levers (formulation, service life, logistics) — and what DAM does not claim.
