White cement is the tint grey can never give: bright joints, brilliant renders, crisp castings. The short answer: it costs 2 to 3 times the price of grey cement and serves almost exclusively decorative purposes. White cement's chemistry is very close to grey's: clinker and gypsum. The difference lies in the raw materials: white is made from rocks very low in iron and manganese oxides — precisely the pigments that colour grey. Manufacturing is more demanding still: higher firing temperature and finer grinding to achieve that brilliant whiteness. All of that is billed in the final price.
In every case aesthetics commands: none of these uses needs a mechanical performance grey would not deliver.
